BatchBuddy vs Wherefour: printed plans or a custom quote

Last reviewed November 1, 2026

Quick answerPick BatchBuddy for a printed price and a 14-day trial: Manufacturer, up to 15 members, is $749 a month, billed monthly. Pick Wherefour for a custom quote on a food operation that wants FSMA 204 tools.

BatchBuddy vs Wherefour on price

BatchBuddy prints its prices and Wherefour does not, so only BatchBuddy's side of this comparison carries dollar figures. BatchBuddy's Formulator, an individual workspace, is $149 a month, billed monthly, and Manufacturer, up to 15 members, is $749 a month, billed monthly, or $7,490 a year, billed annually. Wherefour says "We don't publish a price list because every operation is different."

BatchBuddy's comparison page prints a dollar figure for Wherefour. That figure is BatchBuddy's claim, Wherefour's pricing page shows none, and none is repeated here.

Trial or demo

BatchBuddy opens with a 14-day free trial, and its home page says no credit card is required. Wherefour's pricing page offers two routes instead: a custom quote, which starts with a 20-minute call, or a 30-minute demo. It lists no trial. BatchBuddy pricing covers the plans.

What each does on the production floor

Wherefour says its platform scales formulas, schedules batches, tracks yields and monitors production runs in real time. BatchBuddy says an approved master manufacturing record, the formula record, is locked, and that a production run can start only from that state.

BatchBuddy's electronic batch record (EBR) is a batch record kept as a step-by-step electronic form that stops an operator from skipping a step, and BatchBuddy says no batch is released to shipping without a QA e-signature. Its plan cards put the EBR on Manufacturer; other vendor pages differ.

BatchBuddy calls its Part 11 controls aligned, a self-assessed mapping, and says FDA does not certify software. Its terms say using it "does not make your products or operations compliant on its own." Its signature controls differ by plan, so ask which ones yours includes. Wherefour's pricing and supplements pages mention neither Part 11 nor electronic signatures.

Recalls, FSMA 204 and co-packers

Wherefour says FSMA 204, mock recalls in minutes, certificate of analysis (COA) management and audit trails are built in, and that its platform works in co-manufacturer and co-packer settings.

BatchBuddy's Professional card, up to 5 members at $349 a month, billed monthly, lists "FSMA 204-aligned" lot traceability and recall simulation drill reports: a timed trace of a lot forward to customers and back to suppliers, saved as a signed report. For co-packers, BatchBuddy tags each formulation by client, and each client sees only its own finished-product information.

FDA's FSMA 204 page covers foods on the Food Traceability List. It says the original compliance date was January 20, 2026, that FDA proposed July 20, 2028, and that Congress directed FDA not to enforce the rule before that date. Food manufacturing software for a small business goes further on food.

Who should pick BatchBuddy and who should pick Wherefour

  • BatchBuddy for a maker who wants the price before the call: the plan cards price Manufacturer, the card with the EBR, at $749 a month, billed monthly, for a team of up to 15 members.
  • Wherefour for a food operation or co-packer that wants FSMA 204 tools on a quote scoped to its operation, with monthly, quarterly or annual billing.

A dietary supplement maker also weighs 21 CFR 111.605(c): "All electronic records must comply with part 11 of this chapter." Records required by part 117, the food rule, sit outside part 11 under 21 CFR 11.1.
