What is BatchBuddy? A plain-language definition
BatchBuddy is cloud software for manufacturers of supplements, food and cosmetics. A team uses it to build formulas, receive ingredient lots, schedule production runs, record each step of a batch and keep quality records, all behind a login. The vendor sells it as four plans, from a single-user workspace to an unlimited-seat tier.
This page covers the manufacturing software sold at batchbuddy.ai, so check that address if you meet the name elsewhere. It was written from the vendor's own pages, help articles and terms as read on November 1, 2026.
How BatchBuddy works: the seven-stage workflow
- Formulate: versioned formulas with an ingredient library, and a check that quantities match the label claim.
- Source: ingredient lots, supplier certificates of analysis and first-in, first-out allocation.
- Plan: production scheduling with material availability checks and shortage alerts.
- Execute: step-by-step electronic batch records with mandatory fields and approval checkpoints, which the plan cards place on the Manufacturer plan and above.
- Certify: corrective and preventive action files, out-of-specification investigations and an audit trail.
- Fulfill: invoicing, shipping labels and a client portal for brand customers.
- Optimize: formula cost and yield reports that flag low-yield runs.
The parts this site covers, and the parts it leaves aside
Batch Bench covers the parts that touch batch records and compliance paperwork: formulas and master records, ingredient lots and certificates, electronic batch records, quality events and the audit trail. Planning, invoicing, shipping and the client portal are real parts of the product, but they belong to inventory and order guides, so each gets one line here and no more.
That split matters when you price it. A maker who needs only the record side still sees a plan ladder built around the whole system, which the BatchBuddy pricing guide sets out tier by tier.
GMP Native: what the vendor's term covers, and its limits
GMP Native is the vendor's name for its design approach. Its explainer page calls the term a system-architecture claim: record, signature and batch-execution controls sit in the software itself, and the vendor says a non-compliant action is rejected by the software rather than merely discouraged. The same page says the term is not a GMP certification.
The limits are stated by the vendor too. Equipment qualification, environmental monitoring, facility maintenance and calibration stay with the manufacturer, and the terms say the software alone does not make a product or operation compliant. The trust page calls the product 21 CFR Part 11-aligned and describes that as a self-assessed mapping, not a certification.
Who uses it, and when to look at it
- Supplement brands and contract manufacturers: the vendor's industry pages describe 21 CFR Part 111 records, certificate of analysis handling and multi-client batch records.
- Cosmetics makers: the vendor lists MoCRA documentation and ISO 22716 support. ISO 22716 is a paid standard, so these guides point to FDA's own cosmetics page instead of quoting it.
- Food producers: the vendor lists lot traceability for FSMA, SQF and BRC.
- When to look: when formulas, batch sheets and certificates live in separate spreadsheets and folders, or when a co-packer, retailer or auditor asks to see records quickly. The shortlist guide helps decide whether software is the next step.
- Staffing: the vendor says one person can run the system from day one, which is a vendor claim to test during the trial.
